BIOGRAPHY
Tak Him Wong is a Hong Kong flutist and conductor currently based in Switzerland. He completed his Master of Arts in Concert Performance (Flute) at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste under the guidance of Prof. Maria Goldschmidt-Pahn and studied piccolo with Ms. Haika Lübcke as part of his postgraduate training. He began studying the flute at the age of six with Mr. Peter Chan, and later continued his studies with Ms. Izaskun Erdocia during his undergraduate years at Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2018, he performed his undergraduate concerto recital at the HKBU Academic Community Hall with a student string orchestra conducted by Mr. Marco Kwok.
Since 2024, Tak Him has been pursuing a Master degree in Conducting at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana with Prof. Marc Kissóczy. In 2025, he additionally began conducting studies at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg under Prof. Scott Sandmeier.
As an orchestral musician, Tak Him is active across Europe in both modern and historical performance settings. He currently performs as flutist and piccoloist with the Medizinerorchester Bern, Jugendorchester Thurgau, Styriarte Youth Orchestra, Deutsch-Skandinavische Jugend-Philharmonie, and Jungen Kammerphilharmonie Thüringen. He is also a Baroque flutist with the Collegium musicum der Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and appears as a guest musician with the Phenomenon Orchestra and the Neumünster Orchester Zürich. During the 2025–2026 season, he served as a substitute flutist with the New World Symphony. In 2022, he completed an orchestral internship with the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra as principal and second flutist.
An enthusiastic chamber musician, Tak Him recently co-founded several ensembles, including the Damaskinos-Wong Duet, Duo Mesor, and Aurora Flute Trio.
Tak Him has received recognition in numerous international music competitions. His awards include first prizes at the New Jersey Sinfonietta International Showcase Music Competition, Bach International Music Competition, Royal Maas International Music Competition, Padova International Music Competition, Grand Prize Virtuoso London Competition, North International Music Competition, and King's Peak International Music Competition. He also received third prizes at the France Music Competition – Les Musicales du Centre and the Rising Stars Grand Prix. In 2020, he was awarded the HKSAR Government Talent Development Scholarship and received an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Music Performance from the Department of Music at Hong Kong Baptist University. Additional scholarships and grants include support from the ZHdK Foundation, the Bruno Schuler Foundation, the Emsbürener Musiktage Scholarship Fund, and the Swiss-European Mobility Programme Traineeship Grant.
Tak Him has participated in numerous international festivals and academies, including the Live Act Contemporary Music Academy, Tampere Flute Fest, Landesmusikakademie Conducting Workshop, Emsbürener Musiktage, Festival Académie Internationale d'Été de Nice, and the summer programme of Berklee College of Music in Los Angeles, where he attended with scholarship support.
As a performer, he has appeared at major international venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Tonhalle Zürich, Hong Kong Government House, and the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall. In July 2025, he made his concerto debut with Maestro David Svec and the Philharmonisches Orchester Budweis in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.
In addition to his performance career, Tak Him Wong is also actively engaged in music education and arts administration. He currently teaches flute and music theory, working with students of various ages and backgrounds. Alongside his teaching activities, he is involved in arts management and administration with the Merel Quartet, Kammermusikfestival Zwischentöne Engelberg, Tampere Flute Fest, and the Deutsch-Skandinavische Jugend-Philharmonie.
